UAE’s Mubadala Development Co have announced an investment coalition with the Chinese conglomerate HNA Group, revealing very few details about specific future investments, and leaving much excitement to the imagination.
Between the two investor groups, new projects could have access to anything within the $100 billion worth of assets at the disposal of HNA or Mubadala.
After previously expressing an interest in following the trend of diversification away from oil based economic portfolios, it is unsurprising that Mubadala should choose to partner with as impressive an investor as HNA Group. HNA have experience in a multitude of exciting areas, including aviation, industrial technology, but most intriguingly; healthcare technology.
Healthcare within GCC territories, such as the UAE are undergoing a time of complete revolution, numerous factors including a growing population, mandatory switches from public to private provision, and a rise in the experience of chronic lifestyle diseases such as diabetes. When this is placed alongside the desire of many Middle Eastern countries to participate at the cutting edge of IT, the benefits of linking with Southeast Asian investors and providers such as HNA become clear.
Deals such as these are all contributing to the increasingly reliable rate of return for healthcare IT, and indeed the healthcare sector in general. The move away from oil based economies, and into technology and knowledge based portfolios within the GCC is becoming ever more common, and building relationships between Southeast Asian partners, Middle Eastern investors, and distributors is growing equally important.
