Middle Eastern investors have a history of being able to unearth prime investment opportunities in growth markets, including Africa. The strong trend of Middle Eastern investors deploying capital in various African sectors like agriculture, infrastructure, natural resources, and oil and gas can be seen in the major recent investments made by regional investment entities.
Abraaj Group is the one of the largest investment firms in the Middle East, with 9.5 billion USD in assets under management. Last year, the Abraaj Group closed its third dedicated private equity fund focused on sub-Saharan Africa at 90 million USD. The fund received support from sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and finance institutions from around the world.
When the fund closed, Founder and Group Chief Executive of the Abraaj Group Arif Naqvi said “The strong demand for this new fund reflects increased investor appreciation for the powerful growth story unfolding across Africa. It is a story driven by rapid urbanization and favourable demographics that are fuelling consumption across multiple sectors from an expanding, young middle class.”
He went on to comment that Abraaj’s long-standing presence in Africa coupled with its deep experience of value creation in growth markets allowed it to identify “high-potential partner companies that can become regional champions in their industries”.
However, large organisations like the Abraaj Group have historically overlooked niche, non-mainstream African investment opportunities, and it is these opportunities that many Middle Eastern investors are currently seeking.
Naseba has spent over a decade building a network of contacts with investors based around the world – including the Middle East. Our team of investor analysts specialises in understanding the needs and mandates of investors. Our investors have expressed continuous interest in deploying capital in Africa, and we are currently sourcing African investment opportunities on their behalf.
On October 5th, 2016, we will be organising a private investor meeting in Dubai to introduce pre-screened Middle Eastern investors to pre-qualified African investment opportunities.
