WIL ECONOMIC FORUM AFRICA

Africa has evolved rapidly over recent years, transforming both socially and economically. However, gender inequality remains an issue, costing sub-Saharan Africa on average US $95 billion a year, or 6% of the region’s GDP, jeopardising the continent’s efforts for inclusive human development and economic growth.

In 2009, the first Global WIL Economic Forum broke new ground in the Middle East by giving a platform for women leaders to gather and create opportunities. Since then, the forum has travelled across continents and evolved much.

Committed to promote the role of women in the economy and unlock the potential of the next generation of female leaders, Naseba will be hosting the WIL Economic Forum Africa in partnership with Rwanda Development Bureau and Rwanda Convention Bureau.

Held under the theme “G.R.I.T. Gauge | Redefine | Invest | Transform”, the forum places a particular focus on enacting social and economic change through diversity & inclusion, regional integration, impact investment, community building, and more.

Further, WIL Economic Forum Africa will be officially documented with the record used to create actionable strategies that will be presented to the highest levels of government.

WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT PRINCIPLES

Pledge your commitment to support women’s economic empowerment

The Women Economic Empowerment Global Summit (WEEGS) is providing a platform for entities, organisations, individuals and governments to pledge commitments to action to promote a women inclusive economy through programmes, actions, research, policies and regulations or activities that will aim to increase women participation and integration in the economy, eliminating inequality in the workplace, and encouraging entrepreneurship. The pledged actions should be implemented before the end of 2019.

The 7 principles are:

  1. Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality
  2. Treat all women and men fairly at work – respect and support human rights and nondiscrimination
  3. Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers
  4. Promote education, training and professional development for women
  5. Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women
  6. Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy
  7. Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality

As a signatory of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Principles, Naseba invites you and your organisation to take the pledge and empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.
